Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Sordi has been working in the field of Corrections with both the juvenile and adult offender population for more than 30 years. She has worked within the confines of a Correctional Center and in the community, where she notably helped develop the first offender Re-Entry Program in the United States.
Jennifer began working with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1992. Four years later, she became the Program Manager for the then newly developed After Incarceration Support Systems program. She was promoted to the rank of Assistant Deputy Superintendent in 2004 and Assistant Superintendent in 2012.
She was most recently promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Re-Entry & Transitional Step-Down Services, and she is currently responsible for overseeing the Hampden County Sheriff’s All-Inclusive Support Services Re-entry program, the Western Massachusetts Regional Women’s Correctional Center, the Western Mass. Recovery & Wellness Center as well as Programming and Education.
Jennifer earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut in 2001 and has worked as a Licensed Alcohol Drug Counselor.
Based on her professional experiences, Jennifer has developed a solid knowledge base in the areas of Substance Use Disorder, Mental Health, Case Management, Counseling, Networking, Community Organizing, Effective Communication, Interpersonal Skills, Gender-Specific Programming, Public Safety, Effective Supervision and Residential Programming.
In addition to Jennifer’s work with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office, she has also volunteered on the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Homeless program and the Gray House program. She also served as an adjunct professor at Elms College in the Social Work Department and as a member of the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health Springfield Site Advisory Board.
