Michael W. Farrier II, PsyD, retired in 2021 as a major with the Hillsborough County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office. During his 26-year career, Dr. Farrier had the opportunity to create numerous programs that directly benefitted the psychological well-being of inmates suffering from substance abuse and mental health diagnoses. He took a proactive approach to the overall well-being of sheriff’s office staff by designing training centered around the emotional and psychological stress resulting from law enforcement and detention duties. He is committed to developing and promoting transparent, supportive workplace cultures. Dr. Farrier is experienced in overseeing large jail operations, including staffing, hiring, budgeting, interagency collaboration, and program management.
Dr. Farrier is a member of the American Jail Association and the American Correctional Association and is a volunteer call-taker for CopLine. Dr. Farrier is a former member of the board of directors for Abe Brown Ministries, a nonprofit organization that assists individuals with reentry needs after incarceration, and Cove Behavioral Health, a nonprofit organization that provides in-patient and out-patient substance abuse treatment. Dr. Farrier has been a guest speaker for the University of Tampa and the University of South Florida and has been a presenter at the Florida Sheriffs Association Conference.
Dr. Farrier earned a master of arts degree in adult education, a master of science degree in criminal justice and emergency management, and a doctoral degree in psychology. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Command Officers Development Course.
