Captain Allen West is currently the Director of Classification and Treatment at the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center. He is a former Correctional Supervisor with the Virginia Department of Corrections and has been working in the local jail capacity since 2003. With over 26 years of correctional experience, he oversees the Classification Department, Medical Department, Mental Health, Work Force, Work Release, and inmate programming. He manages the Jail Medication Assisted Treatment (JMAT) program and is on the JMAT Implementation Committee that partners with George Mason University. In addition, he manages a 90-Day all-inclusive prerelease program. In 2009, Captain West saw the need to increase re-entry services, so he proposed an idea to partner with state & local governments, faith-based and non-profits to improve the inmate’s transitional support. He has been the Co-Convener of the Greater Prince William Re-Entry Council and a member of Prince William County Re-entry Evidence-Based Decision-Making Committee, Mental Health DIVERT Team, Virginia Department of Corrections Incarcerated Veterans Stakeholder, Veterans Docket, and the Advancing Pretrial Policy Research Team. Captain West received the Prince William County Executive Award for his work in inmate re-entry services and has been a keynote speaker at Virginia Attorney General’s Re-entry Conference, American Jail Association Annual Conference (Louisville KY), Opiate Summits, and other re-entry councils throughout the state of Virginia. He continues to champion new ideas for returning offenders by creating avenues for becoming a successful citizen while increasing public safety.
