Sort Commander/Correctional Officer
Hualapai Adult Detention Center
Peach Springs, Arizona
My name is Joshua Jackson, and I am the SORT Commander at the Hualapai Adult Detention Center. I started my career in law enforcement in August 2005 with the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, where I worked in Corrections, D.E.R.T. Team, Fugitive and Warrants Divisions, Transports, and Deputy Recruit. In January 2014, I started to work for the Hualapai Tribe at Grand Canyon West in their Security Department. In February 2016, I was promoted to Corporal. In May 2018, I went back to corrections, working for the Hualapai Juvenile Detention and Rehabilitation Center. I attended the Indian Police Academy in July 2019 and graduated with my Indian Country Correctional Officer Training Program certification. I also graduated as a squad leader in our platoon. In November 2019, I transferred to the Hualapai Adult Detention Center. I joined SORT in February 2020 and became SORT Commander in March 2023. During my time as SORT Commander, it became apparent that we needed an in-house trainer for defensive tactics. In July 2024, I went to Salinas, KS, where I earned my Command Tactics Instructor certification from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. When not working, I spend time with my wife (we've been married for 15 years and together for 20 years) and our two sons (ages 12 and 14). I enjoy coaching football, jiu-jitsu, and going to the gym. Lastly, during the holidays, I get to be Santa for all the Hualapai Tribe Christmas festivities. I enjoy working for the Hualapai Tribe and am thankful we have one of the few SORT Teams in Indian Country.
