Description: A toxic work culture is one of the main reasons jails across the country are having a hard time hiring and retaining employees. With changes to the generational make-up of jail staff a toxic culture is less tolerated by the employees. If an agency wants to thrive and recruit and retain strong talent, then it needs to be willing to do a top/down review of their cultural habits and make changes that will help their agency grow in the future.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion participants will be able to understand what a toxic culture is and how it affects staff and agency morale.
Upon completion participants will be able to understand the changing generational make up of jails and how newer generations are less likely to tolerate toxic culture.
Upon completion participants will be able to understand the process of reviewing agency culture and make changes at each level and engage in communication with all members of the staff.
Upon completion participants will be able to engage in the process of developing a shared vision and mission statement and policies that encourage a positive and productive environment.
Upon completion participants will be able to reflect on the process of change and set a timeline for implementation of changes and reviews on a regular basis
