Description: This session will focus on actual or potential alcohol withdrawal. Those individuals who enter the justice system directly “from the street” have a higher potential to experience varying degrees of alcohol withdrawal signs and symptoms. Alcohol withdrawal can be fatal if he symptoms and health manifestations are not recognized and treated appropriately. Discussion will include the importance of a in-depth screening, symptoms to look for, importance of timelines and amounts of last alcohol consumption, as well as nationally recognized assessment forms that may be used by medical and custody staff.
