Description: It may take many more years to fully recover from the jail staffing crisis. This workshop will share a wide range of strategies and actions that have proven effective at closing the gap between demand (what needs to be done on a shift), and the actual supply of staff (how many staff report for the shift.)
This workshop goes beyond initial recruiting challenges to explore many new strategies to: improve staff retention, make the best of use of the staff you have, tune up operations to increase staffing efficiency, find schedule configurations that best fit daily demands, identify the scheduling needs of staff, evaluate 8/10/12 hour shifts; use part time employees, manage staffing needs presented by inmates who present new challenges (violent, mentally ill, substance abuse), operate a Direct Supervision without enough staff, and more.
