Description: The Jail-based Medication Assisted Treatment (JMAT) program expanded opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment and related recovery and reentry services for adults in the criminal justice system in a local jail through a collaborative partnership with stakeholders. The program targeted adult offenders addicted to or dependent on opioids with the goal being to increase Buprenorphine initiations through an effective, culturally responsive, system of services. The program evaluated the impact of this criminal justice-public health navigation delivery model for people with OUD, documenting the differential impacts on underrepresented populations. Best practice policies, procedures, and processes have been developed, implemented, and evaluated in coordination with correctional sworn staff. This session aims to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the JMAT program and practical lessons learned from sworn correctional and treatment professionals.
