Planning the Jail of Tomorrow

Description: The State of Maryland is in the process of designing and building one of the most state-of-the-art criminal justice facilities that utilizes a three-door approach to its justice system, offering Deflection, Detention, and Day Reporting in conjunction with a sequential intercept model making use of a wide range of in custody and out of custody services to provide the best possible outcomes for those involved in the criminal justice system. This major capital project is one piece of a planned system to address past challenges and satisfy current settlement agreements. Maryland has assembled a team of some of the most innovative minds in the criminal justice planning community that are working together to pave new ways in how justice systems approach an environment where high needs populations meet accountability. This panel is unique in the fact that they are working together across multiple disciplines to actually do something about common problems that plague today's jails.
